Compost

City of Annandale residents have two yard waste service options available: seasonal curbside pick-up service through the city's garbage and recycling hauler or drop-off collection at Annandale’s Compost Facility. 

Seasonal Curbside Pickup

The City offers all refuse and recycling customers within the City of Annandale seasonal curbside pickup one day in the Spring and one day in the Fall. Collection days are scheduled based on weather but typically fall on a selected Monday in April and October.   

All items must be bagged in a compostable bag and placed curbside by 7am on collection day.  Bags cannot weigh more than 40 lbs.

  • Grass clippings and weeds
  • Plants and flowers

Unacceptable items

  • Dirt
  • Branches
  • Mulch
  • Rocks
  • Sod
  • Lake weeds
  • Whole trees and stumps
  • Landscape materials (edging, fabric, etc.)
  • Plastic plant pots or containers
  • Food waste
  • Animal waste 
  • Trash

Compost Facility- Drop off

The Compost Facility is located off 70th Street behind the City’s Training Center located at 551 Poplar Lane South. 

Know Before You Go

  • Collection Site is open Sunrise to Sunset on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
  • Only residents of the City of Annandale can drop compostable yard waste off at the collection site. No commercial waste allowed.
  • The Collection Site has controlled access.  Residents will need to know the first four digits of their utility account number in order to access the site. If you have an account number with less than 4 digits, add zeros to the front of the account number.  For instance, if your account number is 35.00, your code to enter the facility would be 0035#. Please remember to press the pound (#) sign at the end of your account number.

Follow the signs where to dump items. There are separate areas for branches, yard waste and perennial flowers.

Topsoil compost is available free to the public for use in your yard. You are responsible for loading and hauling.
