The City of Annandale has adopted Chapter 97 (Licensing of Rental Housing) which establishes a rental licensing program for multifamily buildings that contain more than three dwelling units. The purpose of this program is to promote safe and healthy living conditions for tenants, ensure compliance with applicable city codes, support long-term maintenance of rental housing, and establish consistent communication between the City and property owners.
To comply with the ordinance, property owners must submit a Rental Housing License Application and pay the established licensing and inspection fees. The license fee is $100, and inspection fees are $25 per unit for buildings with three to five units, or $20 per unit for buildings with six or more units. After your application and fees are received, you will be required to complete an inspection with the City’s building official, Metro West Inspection Services. Their contact information to schedule the inspection is 763-479-1720. A license will be issued upon successful completion of the application and inspection. Licenses are valid for three years.
Using the City's Rental Maintenance Housing Maintenance Standards, an inspection checklist was created to assist property owners in items the building inspector may review. Inspections may not be limited to the items included in the checklist.
Applications may be submitted to City Hall in person, by mail, or electronically. If you have any questions about the requirements, fees, or inspection process, please contact us for assistance.
